Behind the Work: Meet Meg

Megan Bartley is a style writer, editor, and social media manager based in Seattle, Washington. As a managing editor and writer with extensive social media, web, and print experience, she thrives in situations where she’s working directly with teams to produce strong content that makes an impression. Used to working on a deadline, she's known for creating clean, fresh copy that’s brand focused and bold.

An editor, writer and stylist for Seattle Bride magazine and The Seattle Times, her focus is on web, print, and social media content development and engagement. Before moving full time to editorial, she was the social media and community manager for VMware's vCloud Air public cloud service, as well as an editor at MSN. She's also the former (and inaugural) Seattle city editor for Miss A, a national online women’s magazine highlighting charity and style, and has bylines spanning publications all over the country.

Professional Experience

Editor in Chief, Seattle Bride magazine, Seattle, Wash. (March 2019 to present)
As Editor in Chief of Seattle Bride magazine, my role runs the gamut. Management and organization are key; I single-handedly plan each issue from start to finish, brainstorming and creating content to fill an 80–150-page book that’s published twice annually. During my stint as editor, I’ve worked closely with our art director to redesign the magazine, introducing matte covers, more diverse content, and a clean, minimalist aesthetic to the publication. From planning and producing editorial content, to fashion shoots, to cover design, the details are countless. I work closely with our associate publisher to consider and implement vendor involvement, as well as our social media manager to repurpose and write content for email campaigns and for the web. I’ve also hosted the magazine’s annual Best of awards three years running, and I led the production of the virtual awards party in 2020.

Social Media Manager, VMware (January 2015 to October 2016)
Managed social media and community sites for vCloud Air, a VMware public cloud service. Led the redesign of existing social media and community pages to increase and drive engagement. Developed and managed social media, corporate blog and community content editorial calendars and corresponding marketing campaigns. Produced copy, oversaw designing of graphics, and edited photo and video content for the corporate blog, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter networks. Researched, analyzed, and developed data reports to increase engagement across all channels.

Online Editor, MSN, Microsoft, Bellevue, Wash. (July 2012 to January 2015)
Managed a team of writers and editors in a fast-paced web publishing environment, which included the deployment and migration to a completely new site design and content management system. Collaborated with partner sites, photo editors, designers, and developers to create original content for MSN homepage placement that drove millions of page views daily. Planned and produced targeted content and managed a corresponding editorial calendar. Tracked and analyzed real-time data through multiple software tools to increase user engagement and meet page view goals.

Style Writer,
The Seattle Times, Seattle, Wash. (July 2011 to January 2015)
Covered fashion and beauty trends to produce marketing and brand-focused content for the “Sunday Market” and previously NWsource “Shopping” sections.

City Editor, Miss A, Seattle, Wash. (July 2011 to August 2012)
Inaugural Seattle city editor of national online women’s magazine Miss A. Managed a web site redesign and launch, as well as a team of seven writers, to plan, write and edit daily online and social media content, covering topics ranging from local fashion and charity events to restaurants and nightlife.

Copywriter, ShareBuilder, Seattle, Wash. (September 2009 to May 2010)
Assisted the Corporate Marketing team to create and proofread seasonal copy for the ING Direct and ShareBuilder web sites and Facebook pages. Ghostwrote company announcements and mailings sent to employees by the company Chief Executive Officer. Attended meetings, proposed ideas and worked collaboratively and independently to meet team goals and deliver successful results.
